A Police Constable from the Central Police Station, New Amsterdam, Berbice was thrown into a cell at his place of employment after he was nabbed fleeing from the scene of a robbery in the ancient county.
The constable and two of his accomplices were held in a car at a roadblock at Number 76 Village, Corentyne, minutes after they committed a robbery at Grant 1805 Crabwood Creek.
Police in a press release stated that the robbery was committed on businessman Ramesh Kalicharran around 20:00 hours on Wednesday.
Investigations revealed that Kalicharran was in his the shop when the two men entered on the pretext of purchasing aerated drinks.
As the businessman was in the process of handing them the drinks, the men held on to his hands and one of them placed a pair of handcuffs on him.
The men then demanded all his valuables and the victim handed over his personal jewellery valued at $100,000 along with $400,000 cash, then they escaped.

But the response of the police was swift and a roadblock was immediately set up.
Acting on information received they stopped a motor car with two men, one of whom was the Police Constable, who works at the Enquiries Desk at New Amsterdam.
The two men were detained and taken to the Springlands Police Station, along with the motor vehicle, where the police constable was identified by the victim as being one of the men who had robbed him.
Further enquiries led to a third suspect being arrested.
Kaieteur News understands that the police recovered some of the money from the robbery.
The three men, including the police rank, are in custody assisting with the investigations.
